Review Committee-International approves variable program lengths for ACGME-I-accredited programs
At its 2015 December meeting, the Review Committee-International approved the option for a program director to request adding 12 months to the length of a residency or fellowship program.
Approved lengths for all ACGME-I-accredited residencies and fellowships are listed here. New Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) related to adding 12 months to the length of the program are here.
To request an additional 12 months, a program director must complete all information on the request form and submit it to the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) for approval.
Request to Revise Program Length in an Accredited Program
The DIO must complete the request form and submit it to email@example.com before 15 JUNE 2016.
Note that the change to the Program Requirements allowing the option to vary program length becomes effective 01 July 2016. Programs requesting an additional 12 months may need to revise their program information in the Accreditation Data System (ADS) to maintain compliance with International Foundational and Advanced Specialty Program Requirements. Updated information can be entered in ADS after 01 July 2016, and must be completed by 01 August 2016.
