ACGME International (ACGME-I) is proud to announce that VinUni College of Health Sciences in Hanoi, Vietnam has become the first Sponsoring Institution in Vietnam to achieve ACGME-I accreditation. The Initial Accreditation status for the institution became effective 1 July 2023.

“The team at VinUni has created the foundation for excellent residency programs, and their ACGME-I accreditation will accelerate the development of these programs,” said ACGME-I President and Chief Executive Officer James A. Arrighi, MD. “We are very pleased to be working with their GME team and look forward to a collegial and productive partnership.”

Following a successful Accreditation Preparedness Assessment visit by the ACGME-I team in April 2023, VinUni College of Health Sciences’ application for accreditation was approved by ACGME-I’s Review Committees-International – the peer-review body responsible for assessing all Sponsoring Institutions and programs for compliance with ACGME-I Requirements.

“From residents to staff to faculty to VinUni and Vingroup leadership, everyone affiliated with our GME programs was beyond thrilled to learn of this achievement,” said Vice Dean of Medical Education Le Van Phuoc, MD, MPH. “As a university that is not even three years old, to be the first institution in Vietnam to reach this milestone shows what can be accomplished with incredible dedication, hard-work, and talent from a large team of local and global partners.”

With the addition of VinUni College of Health Sciences, Vietnam becomes the 12th country where a Sponsoring Institution has achieved ACGME-I accreditation. “Our partnership with VinUni is important to ACGME-I, as it may serve as a model for GME reform for the entire country,” added Dr. Arrighi.
