New Graduate Medical Education Programs from Five Countries Accredited

At their July 2024 meeting, the Review Committees-International confirmed the Initial Accreditation of 14 graduate medical education (GME) programs from seven Sponsoring Institutions.

A set of firsts among the newly accredited programs are based at Dubai Health Authority (DHA), where family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics became the institution’s first accredited programs. DHA has been accredited as a Sponsoring Institution since 2022.

Two programs at long-standing accredited Sponsoring Institutions in the United Arab Emirates also achieved Initial Accreditation: the cardiovascular disease fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and radiology residency at Zayed Military Hospital.

Two programs at the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) – emergency medicine and pediatrics – achieved Initial Accreditation, bringing the total number of accredited programs at JUST to four.

Three programs at The Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa (AKU MCEA) in Nairobi, Kenya – anesthesiology, family medicine, and pathology – achieved Initial Accreditation. A total of seven programs are now accredited at AKU MCEA.

Two subspecialty programs – endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism; and medical oncology – and one specialty program – pathology – achieved Initial Accreditation at the American University of Beirut (AUB) in Lebanon, bringing the total number of accredited programs at AUB to 21.

Finally, the obstetrics and gynecology program at the International Medical Center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia achieved Initial Accreditation.

All accreditation decisions are effective as of the beginning of the academic year, 1 July 2024.
