New Members Join the Review Committees-International

On 1 July 2024 nine new volunteers officially began their terms on the two Review Committees-International – the peer-review bodies entrusted with developing and reviewing institutional and program compliance with ACGME-I requirements.

The new members of the Medicine-Based Review Committee:

  • Sayed Karar Ali, MD, Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa, Kenya – Internal Medicine
  • Rahma Mohamed Nasser Al Kindi, MRCGP [INT], DCH, MD, MBBS, Oman Medical Specialty Board, Oman – Family Medicine
  • Haya Al Thani, MD, MA, Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar – Resident Member
  • Lisa Bellini, MD, MACP, Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, US – Internal Medicine
  • Elias Ghossoub, MD, MSc, American University of Beirut Medical Center, Lebanon – Psychiatry

The new members of the Surgical/Hospital-Based Review Committee:

  • Salwa Abuyaqoub, MD, Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar – Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Aisha Al Busaidi, MD, FRCS(C) – Oman Medical Specialty Board, Oman -- Ophthalmology
  • Nouran Alkhoori, MD, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, UAE – Resident Member
  • Muhammad Rizwan Khan, MBBS; FCPS; FRCS; FACS; MHPE, Aga Khan University Medical College, Pakistan – General Surgery

The first meeting of the new cohort took place in mid-July in Chicago, Illinois, US. Read more about the accreditation decisions from the meeting here.

The membership of the committees continues to demonstrate the growing diversity of the ACGME-I community. Members come from eight countries across three continents, including nine ACGME-I-accredited Sponsoring Institutions. In addition, a public member and a resident member serve on each committee.

With the conclusion of both committees' long-time Chairs' terms, the new Chair of the Medicine-Based Review Committee is Sawsan Abdel-Razig, MD, MEHP; and the new Chair of the Surgical/Hospital-Based Review Committee is Paula Termuhlen, MD, FACS. The Vice Chairs are Stacy Potts, MD, MEd, and James Anderson, MD, respectively.
