ACGME-I-accredited residency programs in emergency medicine prepare residents to manage clinical problems within an emergency department. ACGME-I-accredited programs educate residents to evaluate patients undergoing emergency department observation; identify and manage critically-ill and injured patients; establish and implement a comprehensive disposition plan; and perform all medical, diagnostic, and surgical procedures considered essential in the emergency room.
